Amazing scooter dive This was my second time going with Barry and it was amazing. My first dive was a normal kick dive and the second one was a scooter dive. If you never have used scooters I would highly recommend it. You can easily catch on and Barry is patient in making sure you were comfortable. If you are going or want to go diving in Maui then Barry is your guy! I have never felt more comfortable with someone in my life. All the equipment was provided and he just tells you where to meet. Great Guide, Great Guy! My husband and I hired Barry to be our guide for several days when on Maui. We are experienced divers, but it had been a while since we had been out. Barry was a great choice. We did all shore dives, some with scooters and some without. The scooters allowed us to visit sites normally only accessed by boat. Barry took some great pictures and videos that we will treasure. His price was reasonable for a personalized, private experience. He went above and beyond to be sure we were having a good time and doing the things we wanted to do. I was able to swim in the middle of a bait ball while Barry took video. We were also able to check out a manta with our scooters. Barry took one for the team when a baby octopus hitched a ride on me to shore. He scooped it up and got bit taking it back to the water. Thanks, Barry. I am sure the little guy is very happy out there somewhere!

Great Maui Dive Booked a scuba trip for my wife and I with Barry. He's is the consummate professional. My wife had done Snuba before, and had used a tank in our pool, but in the end, she couldn't get over her fear. Barry worked patiently for over 2 hours to try to ease her fears. Once she decided not to go, Barry and I went on a great 2 dives off the Kaanapali Beach. We explored the coral reef off shore. We hung out between 25' - 45', and saw beautiful fish, octopi, turtles, and some pre-historic jelly type fish that had beautiful colors running through it, and some crabs. Barry was amazing!!! I will definitely book with him again. He made the entire dive very easy, has great equipment, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! Thanks again Barry!!!!

Best Diving Guide in Maui We had two fantastic dives with Scuba Barry in Maui and I highly recommend diving with him. He is very knowledgeable, organized, personable, and a great scuba dive guide. He provides all the equipment and set up in excellent condition. He also takes amazing photos and videos. At the end, he put together a movie with music and it was amazing. Best diving experience! We did two dives with Barry and he was absolutely amazing. Right from the very start his communication was excellent and clear - even letting us know what the diving conditions were going to be like the day before. It had been almost 3 years since our last dive and I felt a little anxious getting back into the water but we could not have been in better hands. Barry was super knowledgable, safe, enthusiastic and everything we could have hoped for. We did two awesome dives including one with the scooters which were definitely worth it. We could not recommend him more highly and hope to dive with him again next time we return to Maui!

Amazing Maui Scuba Guide Originally was diving with Barry for him to certify my girlfriend. He was very patient and spent many hours working with her. When she decided she wanted to take more time to get certified, Barry and I went on the remaining dives. He was very knowledgeable about all of the different dive location choices as well as all of the different things we saw on the dives and he was extremely accommodating. His gear was great and the dives were amazing! We went on dives at three different locations including a night dive (he can also take you on scooter dives). He can also take photos and videos during your dives and they turned out amazing! (one of them immediately became my new phone wallpaper!) He is both very safe and very comfortable to dive with and is very friendly as well. In short, I whole-heartedly recommend Barry for any dives you are interested in on Maui!

Outstanding PADI Certification Barry is an exceptional instructor. Nate is now certified… OUTSTANDINGLY! We enjoyed everything from instructions ti dives. The best part for me was the dive at the wharf with the turtles and white tip sharks. I absolutely enjoyed watching both of my children experience this dive. Certification for my son and refreshing for Maddie and I. The video that was created for our family gives us a beautiful memory as well!

Day or night, Barry's dives are great. I can't recommend Barry highly enough. We have gone diving with him on three separate trips to Maui, and he has always provided an amazing experience. Whether it is a dive from a beach to explore a reef, or a night dive to underwater caves filled with turtles, he has always led us on amazing adventures. Also, his videos and pictures gave us professional quality memories that we can share again and again. Dive with Barry! Barry was great to dive with! He did a refresher for my son and I. He went through the most important skills with us and then we did two great dives. He was great showing us wildlife. We saw quite a bit on both of our dives and just helped us feel really comfortable the whole time. I would highly recommend diving with Barry! Great intro dive! We were referred to Barry through another scuba outfit and I couldn’t have been happier! We did an intro dive of Kaanapali and it was a great way to see the reefs. Barry was patient and thorough explaining the the requirements and tests we needed to complete before diving. He made sure we were safe and prepared. This was my 3-4th intro dive (yes I need to get certified) and he had the most complete training I’ve had. The underwater experience was what I expected and I took advantage of the pictures/movies he offered. One less thing I had to worry about even though I had my GoPro along. I’d recommend Barry in a heartbeat and would do another dive when I return!

Felt very safe with him as our guide. Then we were on to Mala Warf. Excellent turtle cleaning station. Way better than the vaunted "turtle town". The variety of sea life here- truly amazing! One of our best diving experiences yet Our family has been diving together for over 35 years… Unfortunately though, I never did my 3rd and 4th open water test dives as I missed both of those for my high school prom events. Instead of completing my open water certification, I’ve just used my basic license for 37 years. Finally, last year, I decided to pursue my final 2 open water tests. I’m so thankful we found Barry as he turned out to be an exceptional dive master and supreme navigator for our overall diving experience in Maui. Barry is also a great instructor, who shares his great knowledge and while he is disciplined in his approach, everything he does is to improve the knowledge of his students. So, beyond taking my tests with him I know that I’ve great improved my diving skills by carefully watching and listening to him. On top of my certification, Barry helped my family navigate the various private dive boat offerings on Maui. He introduced us to two separate dive crews on two different boats and both experiences far greatly surpassed our prior diving experiences on Maui. We felt cared for, secure and had 4 amazing but totally different and unique dive experiences. We loved every member of both crews and equally loved both boats! Beyond all that, Barry is also an outstanding photographer and videographer. On all 4 boat dives, beyond the crew based diver masters who guided and controlled our dives, Barry captured all 4 dives in stunning imagery! I can’t praise Barry enough for making this week in Maui an even more spectacular experience and look forward to working with him again on our next Maui vacation.

Maui Shore Diving … Turtles Galore Plus Octopus We hired Barry after reading all his great reviews. He is knowledgeable and thorough in making sure we were ready for our shore dive. He was able to provide all the equipment and wetsuits we needed. He even got me shorty tanks. It was easy and enjoyable.It was a highlight of our trip. We saw at least 40 green turtles, and the octopus who was out and about. Magnificent. It was perfect timing. Barry has a keen for finding sea life. He spotted red banded shrimps, spiny lobster, and eels. He did an excellent job. We strongly recommend you to contact Barry for your next diving trip.

Become a fish Diving with scooters. Diving with Barry was beyond anything imaginable. Scootered out through waves 25 minutes, a mile from shore. Diving time limited only by O2. With scooters under water, might as well be a real fish. I will never forget and want to be there forever.

Best dive…ever! We had an absolutely amazing experience with Barry on two private dives in Maui. He is definitely the guy you want to be diving with should something go wrong- very knowledgeable, professional, responsible, and attentive to detail. He was also very flexible and pleasant to work with, and it’s clear he was committed to making our experience memorable. Honesty the best dive we’ve ever had! He also knew so much about the sea life. The best part though was the professional photos and videos (video set to music was incredible) that he made to document our experience. Truly a magical experience and superior value for the price. Great day of diving Everything you could ask for in a Maui dive. Very professional, excellent pre dive communication. Gear ready to go and in great shape. Eager to make your experience a memorable one. We did two dives in one morning. The first was on Mala wharf with lots of turtles, all kinds of fish and a 3 foot white tip shark (harmless). Our dive was very well managed with the dive plan, instruction and safety of utmost importance. After a break we did a scooter dive at the Airport beach. This was great fun, after a minute or two of instruction, it greatly facilitated us covering a lot of territory without what would have been a large amount of effort and simply not possible on one tank of air. Can say thanks enough to Barry, great guy. You won't go wrong here.

Great day of diving Everything you could ask for in a Maui dive. Very professional, excellent pre dive communication. Gear ready to go and in great shape. Eager to make your experience a memorable one. We did two dives in one morning. The first was on Mala wharf with lots of turtles, all kinds of fish and a 3 foot white tip shark (harmless). Great Maui dives Excellent guide - Barry provides many different opportunities for great dives and his skill level is top notch. I did a two tank dive that included the use of a scooter which was a real added experience. I highly recommend Barry and will look him up when I’m back on the Island - you can’t go wrong

Incredible!! So many fish, sea turtles and other wildlife This was such an incredible experience all thanks to Barry, our scuba instructor and guide. He is so thorough and patient with teaching and guiding you through your scuba experience. I felt very safe and comfortable knowing he would help me if I started to struggle during my dive. He definitely knows the best spots on the island to go. We saw hundreds of beautiful fish, so many eels and sea turtles, and we even saw a few docile sharks!! The coral reef we scuba dove at was flourishing with life. He even took pictures and videos of us on our dive (he is an amazing photographer too)!! He is definitely someone I would recommend and would go again with him.

Amazing night dive I am a certified diver. I joined Scuba Barry (Barry) on a guided night dive at Black Rock. Barry started with an extensive pre dive briefing , what to expect and safety issues. He found and pointed out all the amazing creatures on this dive. Barry made sure all the divers stayed together and ensured all of the divers were OK throughout the dive. It was an amazing dive. I would highly recommend Scuba Barry , for anyone who would like to try diving, get scuba certification, or for certified divers like me who want a guided dive to see the best a dive site has to offer. Amazing experience As a first time scuba diver I was excited, yet pensive to get going. Barry spent a lot of time on land giving thorough instruction, allowing any and all questions to be asked and answered them promptly. When we finally got into the water and we’re practicing skills I felt pretty defeated and anxious. I was ready to give up, but Barry reminded me not to let the anxiety tell me I didn’t want to dive! Because, I really did want to! He listened to my concerns and met them with solutions, advice, etc. The patience was palpable. With all of this, my confidence built and so I was finally feeling ready to dive and WOW!! Beautiful coral, fish, eel and such an amazing experience overall. So much so, I was itching to go the next day! We met at another spot, with a warm and excited welcome from Barry, where we started off with some initial quizzing, going over our safety plan and any follow up concerns I had from the day prior. We got into the water, and upon my request we went over the skills again, which Barry (let me emphasize again) *patiently* explained and offered some great tools and advice and I was ready to rumble! We saw a shark, beautiful schools of fish, some amazing coral and an abundance of sea turtles (it was seriously so awesome).This entire dive was set to my pace, I felt in control, respected and heard the entire time. This is an experience I’ll remember for a lifetime, and luckily will be able to with the stellar videos & pictures Barry captured. Thank you thank you, Barry- and thanks for not letting me give up! We chose Barry because of one of the earlier reviews we read about "Barry Magic", and boy we were glad we did!From the moment Barry met us in the parking lot, his charming character was fully obvious. He's knowledgable and he's funny. He shared with us his life of park rangers and his love for scuba diving; he taught us the critical hand signal communication under water, and how to handle the various situations. Mostly importantly, he made my wife comfortable enough to want to give it a try. It turns out, Barry had carried an extra tank just in case - he's well prepared and knew this last-minute decision change could happen!So all 4 of us went down. This is our first time, and no matter how many drills were done on the land, it's a different story in the water. In the beginning, I was sinking too fast, my wife couldn't go down, my younger daughter lost her reg during the drill - all sorts of issues happened. But Barry was very experienced in handling these for us, and the entire time we felt sure we were in good hands.After the initial set of first-timer-challenges, all of us quickly got hang of it. We enjoyed 40 min of smooth diving and swimming around, and Barry took many pictures / videos for us. We looked like professionals in the video Barry made for us afterwards!It was an amazing experience, and our entire family wants to go back and experience it more, and we'll sure call up Barry again next time we are in Maui.One extra bonus, the following day, my wife and I went snorkeling, and I was surprised that after one day of scuba diving instruction by Barry, my wife even got more comfortable with snorkeling too. EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS! Can't wait to GO AGAIN! In 2018, I got PADI DIVE CERTIFIED, but due to sinus complications was not able to practice my skills. Then COVID, etc. happened. So I needed an overall refresher with particular attention to becoming confident I could equalize pressure. I also have some physical handicaps, so I needed someone who was not only skilled, but patient. As a part time resident of Maui, its not too hard to find out the scoop on folks, especially when you know people in the dive community. BARRY got GREAT RECOMMENDATIONS from my FAVORITE DIVE SHOP and my SNORKEL BUDDIES. BARRY not only DELIVERED, but HE EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS! We had agreed upon a private lesson and I got way more than I expected. On land, he managed to condense the high points of what is a very long certification course. He has a skill that many experts don't and which I think is key to teaching. He not only tells you what to do and how to do it, but also WHY IT IS IMPORTANT. In the water portion, he could not have been more patient and helpful as I did struggle to get my pressure equalized. I was able to demonstrate some key skills we had agreed to as goals. Plus, I HAD AN AWESOME FUN DIVE and REGAINED my DIVING CONFIDENCE. As an unexpected bonus, Barry put together a brief video of some of the things we saw and of me, which is a great memory. You seriously can't go wrong with BARRY. His skills are suburb and he is a very nice guy. I'm looking forward to another adventure.

Fantastic Dive! Barry is super knowledgeable and we felt safe diving for the first time with him. He was very thorough in preparing us for the dive, quizzing us along the way to make sure we knew what to do. He was also patient with us especially when my wife needed more time to acclimate to breathing with mouth only underwater. We also got great photos and videos to document the adventure! Awesome experience overall.

Fantastic First Dive My wife and I went on our first dive together on Valentine’s Day and Barry made it an adventure to remember! He was very friendly and knowledgeable, even offering to give us advice and tips about places to go or things to do in the days before and after our dive. He was also very professional and we felt safe the entire time which let us focus on the underwater sights, including a (harmless) shark, and a viper eel.

Shore Diving Barry is an amazing dive master! Very knowledgeable about reef life! We saw amongst other sea life, a frog fish, a flame angel fish, a viper eel and most exciting...harlequin shrimp! I would totally recommend diving with Barry when you are on Maui!

Amazing SCUBA certification experience!! WOW -- that is the experience my boyfriend and I had with SCUBA Barry on a company trip to Maui. I selected SCUBA Barry for this due to his (well-deserved) reviews and reputation. We got certified with him during our time there and did additional dives with him afterwards as well. Many people from my company also did dives with Barry, and the group had extremely variable skill levels, but he made sure we were all safe, well-informed, and having a good time diving. One thing I appreciated about Barry is his depth of knowledge. He is the level of SCUBA instructor that actually teaches other SCUBA instructors, so we felt like we were really learning from someone who knows their stuff. He was excellent at spotting creatures that we would have definitely missed, such as harlequin shrimp hiding in the coral (!!). I wasn't sure how I would feel after getting certified, but I feel like I learned from the best and am very well equipped for future dives.You can tell he is really passionate about SCUBA, since he dives every day and it is infectious. Now I have a new hobby..... uh oh! By the way, his videos are really good so I recommend taking him up on that offer. We will definitely book SCUBA Barry again next time we are in Maui!!

I've been a certified diver since 1997 with over 250 dives under my belt and can honestly say that scooter diving with Barry has opened my eyes to the new and joyous experience of flying underwater! Regardless if you are a new diver or an old-hat "seasoned" diver like me, its a must do!3) Safety - Barry is extremely safety conscious. He goes over the dive plan in detail: depth, total time underwater, hand signals, what you'll see, sea-life you'll be looking out for, and emergency contingencies. He constantly is checking on you to ensure you're safe and having a good time.Even if you've dove all the "usual spots" on the island, Barry can show you the gems off the beaten path.

First rate instruction from an awesome guy!! I just finished up 4 scooter dives in 2 days with Barry. WOW! I am Rescue certified with over 100 dives in the past year alone so I sort of know what I'm doing but absolutely learned a ton in the time I spent with Barry. We focused primarily on Scooter training (basic operation, maintenance & cleaning, buddy breathing while scootering, disabled scooter, separation drills, etc) but it's always good to refresh some of the basics while sprinkling in some more advanced training as well, which is what we did. Barry is extremely clear and concise with his pre-dive lessons so I knew exactly what to expect once we hit the water. It's a trait of someone who really knows and is enthusiastic about what he is teaching. Because of his thorough explanations before hand, including pertinent underwater communication signals, it was very easy to understand what he was asking and how I needed to respond - something I've struggled with with previous instructors.I really respect his training style as he genuinely wants you to understand the material and not just "check off the boxes". We did it until I got it, which is what I want from an instructor.After training exercises he took me on some outstanding reef tours, stopping at the right times to point out all the interesting critters. He's in tour guide mode all the time which really makes the most of each dive. We saw stuff I would have buzzed right by otherwise. You can tell he's been doing this forever as one time I was trying to get a video of cow fish and just didn't seem to have enough light....without even knowing Barry was there all of a sudden a flashlight beam shown down on the fish and I was able to get a great video. He knew what I needed without me even signalling for it. A real pro. I have a couple friends who want to take the intro course and there's no question who I am sending them too. Thanks Barry!!

Great Mother-Daughter Experience, Barry is the best! I am a certified diver, but still prefer to go with someone more experienced to lead the way. Barry is amazing. My daughter flew out to visit me on Maui for her Birthday. She is also certified, but only has the opportunity once a year. We booked a shore dive with Barry out to Mala Wharf and it was awesome. He took the time to review some basic skills and hand signals as well as properly setting up her gear. He is extremely patient and knowledgeable. He not only made sure to point out the "hidden" creatures, like eels and frogfish, but captured our experience in high quality photos and videos so we could enjoy the sites over and over. Whether you are just thinking about trying scuba, are a beginning certified diver, or even one who has logged a lot if dives but may be new to Maui . . . I cant speak highly enough about Barry. Hire him, you won't regret it!

My previous dive experience: One intro dive 3 years before in Hanauma Bay as well as classroom and pool sessions with a local SSI dive shop about 2 years ago (never had a chance to do the open water dives to get my cert before time ran out).Her previous dive experience: None.Barry greeted us exactly where and when he said he would be and the place in Wailea-Makena was easy to find. He brought out our equipment and went over all of the safety info and skills before going to the beach giving each of us special attention to ensure we understood everything. Barry was super thorough during this (great refresher for me and he explained everything clearly for my girlfriend). Once we were in the water, my girlfriend was freaking out (never done this before and not a big fan of open waters). Barry was extremely patient with her and walked her through every step which helped her calm down. Eventually, she decided she wasn't quite ready for the ocean and Barry guided her back to shore. My girlfriend afterwards said it was "100% mental on her side" and that he was "the best instructor I could have asked for" despite not being able to complete the dive.After my girlfriend made it to shore, Barry again went over the skills we had practiced with me to verify my understanding. My ears had trouble with equalizing the pressure in at first, but he stayed with me and gave clear hand signals and instruction until I was able to get to the lower depths comfortably. Barry then navigated us towards a small coral reef/cave area which was teaming with fish. Barry made sure to point out all of the various sea creatures we had covered in the on-shore brief - I was able to see a small eel, a giant 8" round (!) eel, a lobster, a 5 foot shark, and even a turtle on our way back to the dive marker! Barry also made it a point to have me stop and listen to the whale songs you could hear underwater - incredible experience!During the whole dive not only was Barry attentive and continuously checking in on my comfort and my air levels, but he was also taking awesome pictures and video of the dive. Great time on our first scuba dive! We had a great time on this experience. Barry was incredibly knowledgable and passionate about his craft. You could tell he had done this multiple times and knew how to instruct his students. His top concern was our safety, he was very strict in how we performed skills out of the water to ensure we would be safe in the water. I was very nervous about going scuba diving and unfortunately had a panic attack once we started to dive, thankfully Barry was very patient with me and gave me the time I needed to calm myself down so I could enjoy our dive (which I did). The reef we snorkeled had a see cave, reef shark, lobster and many different fish. There was not as much live coral as I was hoping for, however it was still a diverse experience and I am thankful we went! He does not allow first time divers to take go pro as it can be distracting and increase risk for dangerous incident, however he has a camera which takes very high quality photos and videos. He charges $100 for all pictures/videos. Thank you!

AMAZING Scuba Experience Barry was incredible. He called me the night before to let me know that a large family had booked the same time with me and offered me a private lesson at a later time ($400 value) for no up charge. He was super knowledgeable and made the training seamless and fun. He goes at your pace to make sure you’re comfortable with the skills before trying them in the water. We saw two sharks and tons of fish. He takes photos of you with the fish underwater and knows how to set up the perfect picture. Hands down couldn’t have found a better instructor and diving experience. Highly recommend doing this with him.

More caves, multiple mollusks, schools of fish, eels and red and purple lobster. We dove Makena Landing, Five Graves and on day 2 went over to Ka'anapali where we were the first guided tour to see John's Rock. How cool is that?! We took scooters to this cave which we found covered inside from floor to ceiling with lobster. Around the corner? Yep 2 active sharks. Barry spent all day with us. Learned a lot, felt safe and had the times of our lives!

excellent experience! I was nervous to try scuba diving, but Barry was patient and made me feel totally safe and comfortable with this new experience. To be honest, I was not expecting to like it very much but we had such a great experience that we booked two more dives with Barry during our trip! Great dive Had a fantastic dive with scuba Barry down in Kihei. I’m by no means an expert but Barry went at the perfect pace, made sure I was having a blast and took us on a stellar dive. Saw some fantastic marine life and Barry pointed out all sorts of things I never would have seen were it not for Barry. Easy to book, easy communication and a sweet easy dive, I highly recommend.

Great Shore Scuba Dives - with Scooters! My family of four (Mom/Dad and Teen boys 17 & 19) did four scooter diver with Barry over a two day period. He was a great communicator and took us to some very cool spots that we would not have seen without the scooters. He was very patient in teaching and helping our least experienced diver. When you have him for a private dive he commits to you for the day, and that means long dives and lots of options to choose from based on what you like to do. We did caves, reefs, swim throughs, arches and more. My favorite was the spiny lobsters and swimming with turtles (of which he got video!).

Overcoming Fears I’m a PADI certified diver, but let it slip away on account of anxiety issues: mask, ears, leg cramps, etc. Decided, age 72, to give it another go. In one lesson, Barry freed me of my fears. Showed me spectacular underwater scenery. Got me focusing on skills I need to improve. A terrific, patient, and understanding teacher! Looking forward to my 4th dive with him.

First time Scuba Diving! Barry was a great scuba guide for our first time diving! Would definitely recommend, especially if you’ve already dabbled in diving...Barry will definitely be able to show you some cool sides of the scuba world. We saw an octopus within the first 15 minutes of our dive, and Barry was even willing to meet us closer to where we were staying in Lahaina, since we were the only two in the group for that time slot. He made up a wonderful little video memento for us as well for a reasonable price and overall, it was a well rounded experience I will surely not forget!

6 Stars from the Family of Five If I could give 6 stars to Scuba Barry, I would. Here's why:- Barry took the time to create a custom package for us: two introductory dives with a family of five, including 16, 13, & 11-year old girls. This was a challenge from the start due to PADI regs stipulating a maximum of 4 uncertified divers per instructor. Barry coordinated a second instructor, allowing us to all dive together, with top notch instruction at a fair price.- Barry is a great communicator. He is responsive, proactive, engaging, honest and very knowledgeable. - Barry is focused on safety. At every step of our engagement, safety was first!- Barry loves SCUBA diving. We were excited to begin with, but Barry's enthusiasm for the ocean and diving was apparent every step of the way and is contagious.- Barry is a patient and thorough instructor. He made sure that every member of our group was comfortable throughout our time together.- Barry was able to document our dive with beautiful photos & video while maintaining control of a large group of inexperienced divers - safety first! I would highly recommend Barry to anyone interested in diving while on Maui. Barry, thank you again for an amazing experience!

A perfect experience. A perfect experience. I’m always hesitant booking solo but Barry was more than accommodating. I had very little snorkel practice prior but with Barry’s on-land and in-water training had me confident to scuba the entire time. We saw amazing coral, fish, crab, a white tip reef shark (aka doesn’t leave its reef and is safe), a moray eel, and more! Barry also has a great underwater camera so you don’t have to worry about taking photos. I would definitely and will definitely recommend this experience to anyone who will listen.

Awesome experience I booked Barry for an intro dive for myself and my two teenagers and then continued on for my open water diver certification. If you book with anyone else you are missing out on an experience of a lifetime. Barry has the best personality and I mean that, actually that's probably an understatement. The patience he has with kids is phenomenal and he takes extra time to ensure kids understand every step before proceeding to the next. My kids had a great time. As for my certification. I feel that I aced every part of it but I owe all my success to Barry being an excellent instructor. If it wasn't for his technique, his style and his patience I may not have done so well. His level of communication before and after class was above expectations and communicated with me via phone and text. Can't say how much I appreciated that. He almost makes you feel like a friend. If you visit Maui and intend on diving for the first time or intend on getting certified you have to reach out to Barry. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Amazing experience First time scuba diving and Barry made it such a surreal experience! We went for two dives and each offered so many incredible things to see, from the variety of colorful fish to the sea turtles to the underwater caves. He knew his way around the reef making for a safe feeling on the dives, and the skills are super helpful too! Very patient attitude and super thorough skills practice for getting to dive without a certification, so definitely don’t hesitate to book a couple of dives here for a great time!

Fantastic adventure! Barry was the best Scuba Instructor on the Island! Diving with Barry was a genuine highlight of my time of Maui. Barry organised everything perfectly, all I needed to do was show up on the day. Barry’s skills were perfect for any range of divers from beginners to advanced certified – his local knowledge of the dive area was fantastic and the dives were in sparkling visibility.We were able to spend time with a diverse range of sea life from sea turtles and Moorish Idol, to eels and white tip reef sharks. Barry’s familiarity with the creatures brought about a true sense of safety and tranquillity. I recommend Barry highly for the dives and would go again without hesitation next time I visit Maui!

Great experience, would highly recommend. Barry was a great instructor and I felt very confident with this skills. As the description states, you should be pretty comfortable with the water, strong swimmer and be able to dive under water no problem. I had a great time diving to about 30ft, explored the reef and Barry was there every kick of the way to make sure we were all safe.

Highlight of the trip!! It was our first time scuba and it was perfectly planned by awesome instructor, Barry. First of all, Berry is so experienced. You don’t won’t to mess this kind of experience with your instructor for the first time so Barry is THE ONE you need to see. My fiancé is an educator but she was impressed of how Barry addressed us to the deep ocean. My fiancé was actually slightly panicked when we first went down the ocean but Barry managed to make her calm. Which she calls it Barry Magic. Through out the dive, he always care for us with extra attention so we can more enjoy under the sea. We actually signed up for one time experience but because he was such a great instructor, we are now thinking about to come back to Maui for the certification! And of course we will ask Barry as our instructor for that!!If this is going to be your first time or first time in a while to dive, Barry got your back so relax and enjoy!!

Awesome intro dive! Barry was so friendly and helpful leading me through my intro dive. His priority is on making sure his divers are comfortable and experience cool sea life, and this translates into a really fun adventure! He really invested in making this dive a success: assisting in safely swimming off the beach to the dive site, checking my comfort at every step of the dive, and making sure to show off amazing reef life while taking some fun photos for me to share with friends and family later. Definitely check this out if you're interested in a fun scuba experience.

Beautiful introductory dive! Wow! What an experience. Barry is a friendly & knowledgable guy. Though I was a bit nervous about my first dive, he made me feel safe and secure every step of the way. The class began with instruction and safety drills. Once Barry saw that we were able to accurately perform all of the drills, we were able to practice in the water. Then the dive began! Overall, we were underwater for about 40 minutes. Along the way, we saw a large coral reef, a sea cave, schools of colorful fish, and sea urchins. I'm so happy I chose Barry's class and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in an introduction to diving!

Simply Fabulous!!!! I had one of the highlights of my life on a discovery dive with Barry. He carefully and clearly went through instruction, making sure that I was comfortable with each step. He was patient when it took me a few times to learn how to clear my mask. No pressure! We saw so many wonderful creatures, including white tip sharks ( lots of them), a turtle, trumpet fish, etc. His love for diving and sharing that joy with others is so evident. To top it off, Barry created a most wonderful video, and took amazing photos. Thank you, Barry, for a most amazing adventure!!!!

Underwater Engagement This particular dive was magical for many reasons. My boyfriend is a certified diver but I am new to diving and don’t hold my certification yet. Barry was so patient with me and very helpful to get me to the ocean floor at my own pace to ensure I was comfortable. Once I got to the bottom my boyfriend was waiting there with a ring and proposed, it was so magical. After the proposal happened the rest of our dive was so much fun. We saw so many fish, see turtles and two very sweet white tip reef sharks. I couldn’t have ever imagined a more memorable dive or engagement!!! Thank You Barry for everything Future Mrs. Champion

Great first experience!!! Barry was awesome!! I booked this lesson as a sort of "face your fears" thing because I am absolutely terrified of the ocean (mostly of sharks and jellyfish but the whole lack of oxygen thing also freaks me out). I was with my dad and, thankfully, no other people... I definitely recommend diving with someone you trust and won't feel awkward making a fool of yourself in front of. Barry's safety "class" was about an hour long and covered all of the things we needed for safety and also some fun stories. After the "class", we got into our gear and, boy howdy, that stuff is HEAVY! If you're not comfortable standing for a while then walking down stairs with a lot of weight on your back, this probably isn't for you! We got to the beach and into the water, swam to our first sandy destination where we covered some basics then went down for our knowledge check... It was only ~10ft deep but it was terrifying. I am not prone to panic but I panicked... I had to go back up to the surface and calm myself down (which meant that Barry and my dad had to come up with me). Barry was super understanding, got me calmed down and hyped up my self confidence so we could continue. We dove, we did not die and we got some pretty stellar pictures from it. Barry showed us some awesome things and guided us through the process with a firm but gentle hand. Definitely recommend Barry and this experience!

The very best Experience- Our teens are PADI certified to dive with us thanks to Barry!!! I was thrilled to meet Barry and for him to put together open dives for our two teens to become PADI certified divers. Barry did 2 family dives with us all and all of Jacob and Megan’s Open Water training. We had amazing family dives with huge mantas, 5 sharks, giant puffer fish, 19 turtles, caves, tubes and an amazing free swimming octopus!!! The Open Water training for the kids was the high light for us. Barry and the kids finished in 2 days. The kids loved Barry and learned a lot from him. If you or your kids want to become certified to scuba dive I highly recommend that you use Barry. He’s full of knowledge, is extremely professional and loves what he does. We’ve already booked our trip back to Maui for my 50th Birthday and to scuba with Barry!!!

The best!!!! We had an amazing time with Barry when we went for our first time ever scuba diving!!! He was the greatest instructor! Extremely professional and VERYYY patient if you’re having any sort of challenges. Safety is his number one focus, and he knows just how to make you feel comfortable. Best instructor and best experience of our lives My husband and I came to Maui for business. I had classes from 8-12 everyday. Barry typically does the intro to scuba lessons in the morning. He was very flexible and allowed us to still experience this later in the day (extending his work hours!). At first I thought the price was a little high- but after the experience, seeing the set-up, watching him prepare for the dive, learning the skills and the responsibility of taking two people 30-feet below the water and keeping them alive- ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! I truly don’t believe you will get this intimate, non-rushes experience with ANYONE else. Safety: Barry made sure we were completely safe before even taking us to the water. We had to do a quiz to make sure we understood the rules- we had to demonstrate our skills on land and then again in 8 feet of water. He was within 2-feet if us the whole time and we didn’t dive until he knew we were safe to do so. Patience: Barry was super patient! I asked a ton of questions (some when I think back were silly) and he answered each question without making me feel ridiculous. (Like are there sharks? And what do we do if we see one??). Barry very gently reminded me we were in the ocean and there are definitely sharks but then reassured me we would be safe. Pictures: I purchased a special camera case for my iPhonex... it was very expensive- I did so exclusively for these pictures. I wanted to capture EVERY MOMENT! When we got ready to go he explained there were no cameras on the first five and that he would take plenty of photos for us (for an additional charge with video). You can imagine my disappointment- DO NOT LET THIS DETER YOU FROM THIS DIVER! He was absolutely responsible in making this decision for his clients! With all the steps I had to remember 30-feet below the water, holding my regulator (because I was NOT going to let it come out), knowing how to signal help and remembering all the safety cues to keep us and the fish safe- WE COULD HAVE NEVER taken our own photos/videos. Not only did this ensure we followed all the rules- we were forced to take in every moment, every movement and be in the present to fully enjoy the entire experience. Photo prices: Barry had to monitor us as well as take pictures to capture our memories. He did just that- we paid a little extra and got the video. I was pleased with the photos and the video. Last: Teaching- when it came time to do the big dive (I say big because 30-ft was huge for us newbies)- I went down too fast- my ears felt like they would exploded and I panicked- immediately requesting to go back up (wasting time and air)... I had a little panic attack at the surface- Barry gave me some tough love- made me repeat “I can do this” and then before I had time to obsess- he gently made us start the decent again- this time he held on to me lowering me a few feet at a time so I could feel safe, allow my ears to pop and remain calm. If it wasn’t for his patience, calmness and his motivation I would have missed out on one of the most incredible experiences of my life! Mahalo Barry! We are forever grateful and will absolutely look you up next time we are in Maui!

Excellent scuba diving and training for handicapped Scuba Barry was very thorough and detailed in his instruction. I'm handicapped, I have mobility issues and his patience was unwavering. He put 110% into his job! I was very nervous and scared, however he continued to remind me....I could do it, and gave positive encouragement throughout the entire dive. I loved it so much I went back for another dive the next day! The photos and movie Scuba Barry made are exceptional! I am so happy with them, my Hawaiian vacation would not have been near as exciting without my scuba diving experience! Thank you Scuba Barry you made it possible for a disabled person to accomplish a bucket list goal! You are Awesome! I love my Movie! ❤

Scuba dooba doo with Barry! We just had a fab dive with Barry (and his friend Steve). Our first attempt at a scooter dive off shore from Polo Beach. Barry is a patient and super attentive Master Dive teacher and guide. He took us through the intro to scooters and had us zooming through the surf in no time at all. What a great dive! We stopped at some beautiful reefs to oggle at Harlequins, eels, turtles, trumpets and closed out the dive lolligagging with a spotted long tail eagle ray. We surfaced to a heavy surf that Barry guided us through to a sweet shore landing. Diving doesn't get better than that. We love the pictures that Barry got and the video is well worth it as a great keepsake. I may sound like a commercial for Scuba Barry but honestly this was a great experience!

Amazing first time scuba diving with Barry in Maui I've never scuba dived before. Barry was very patient with me, he expressed safety first before diving. After I learned what to do. Barry took me to a beautiful reef with a cave. He took great videos and pictures of me. It's one of the best things I've ever done in my life. I highly recommend taking a scuba lesson with Barry.

Certified Beach Dive I had a very enjoyable beach dive off the coast of Wailea. Barry is a very professional dive guide who knows the dive sites well. He plans the dive based on the ocean conditions and the interest of the diver. Even though we had less than ideal visibility because of unusual high surf in the area, Barry took me out to a reef with many colorful fish, a white tip shark, lobster, and a beautiful harlequin shrimp feeding on a starfish in the coral. I'm an experienced diver of more than 30 years and Barry was able to give me some very good tips to make the experience safer and more convenient. He is very detailed oriented and I think he would be an excellent instructor for anyone wanting to become a certified diver.

Great experience! I did an introductory dive with Barry. It was my first scuba experience and I was struggling when we first got into the water. I almost gave up several times but Barry encouraged me to keep trying and I’m so glad I did! Once I got past mastering the skills the dive was incredible. I would definitely dive with Barry if in Maui again. And I would encourage others not to give up if they struggle in the beginning! Thanks Barry!

Such a memorable time While in Maui we decided to to get Scuba certified. It was an incredible time. Barry did a fantastic job answering every question we had while training. Outstanding Scuba Experience (certified dive) Outstanding scuba experience! Barry was very friendly and professional. I did two dives with Barry, and both were excellent experiences. He knows the seascape to help increase the chances of seeing interesting creatures (no guarantees with scuba, of course; we were lucky enough to hear whalesong for most of our first dive, and saw a handful of turtles). I'm a certified diver, but can definitely see how he is great at helping the inexperienced have a great time on their first dives. He brings an underwater camera with phenomenal quality, definitely recommend adding in the pictures/video. Definitely plan to dive with him again my next time in Maui. Highly recommend.

Amazing Intro Experience.... I now feel like a Pro... Wow... what an incredible experience. I have been considering getting certified to dive, for a few years. I totally lucked out with this intro dive with Barry/Daniel (He answers to both) sealed the deal. From the moment we started the shoreline training I was put at ease with the focus on learning, safety, having a good experience. All boxes got checked!!I felt very comfortable knowing we would review any information or skill until I was comfortable to move forward. I strongly recommend Barry and this activity to all who are considering it. His teaching style and collaborative approach really make the experience unique. We happened to see an Octopus, Star fish, eels and so many different types of fish, we even heard the whales chatting in the distance. Refresher dive- awesome It had been 15 years since my last dive . Barry was excellent at keeping me calm, I felt I was in good safe hands. He was on time, accessible, reasonably priced, and truly made for a special day. Will absolutely be back with the whole family next time.

Amazing scenic dive - highlight of my trip! Had an awesome dive with Barry leaving from the Fairmont in Wailea. He was a knowledgeable but relaxed as he led me on a private beach dive - we saw a shark, hawksbill turtle, and a ton of other fish and sea creatures. Would definitely dive with him again!

Best intro scuba experience My fiance and I had a fantastic time with Barry. He was very informative with all the instructions. He was very detailed with everything, and truly ensured that we had a safe and enjoyable experience. I, myself, am very prone to motion sickness on the water, and I was glad this was a shore dive and did not involve getting on a boat to go to some distant location to dive. We spent a good portion of the time learning some basic skills with scuba diving, and the rest of it was spent underwater. Barry took pictures and videos of us while we were underwater. We got to see lots of fish and even an endangered Hawksbill turtle! This intro scuba dive was definitely a highlight of our trip. Totally recommend!

We researched different instructors and we decided upon Scuba Barry from Maui, because he was highly recommended for his teaching skills! Scuba Barry made us feel very comfortable and Safe! You can’t ask for a better instructor! I had my first scuba diving experience today and it was fantastic! Barry has the best personality for this..he was very informative but laid back. He was thorough and made sure we understood what we needed to do. I love that we had a small group size of only four (though one backed out...) it was still perfect. Barry’s level of patience is outstanding...and I feel that while actually diving he made sure to look out for everyone. He also takes underwater photography and videography...so I can’t wait to get those pics and videos! Overall...I can’t say enough about Barry and his excellent scuba diving experience!!

Amazing Experience To say I was apprehensive would be an understatement! I have always wanted to scuba dive but never taken the time or got up the nerve to take classes and become certified. When I arrived for my session, Barry met me and quickly began putting me at ease. Although I quickly became confident in him, I was still very concerned over the thought of actually breathing under water. After about an hour class and written test that was easily passed with Barry's instruction, we entered the water. We started in 6' of water and the first part was just submerging my head and taking some breaths. I took one breath, I think, and quickly stood up as my mind told me humans don't breath under water. Barry assured me that reaction was normal and encouraged me to try again. If not for the confidence given to me by Barry I would have happily returned to shore and called it a day! I went back down and took several breaths and realized I wasn't going to drown.... I then had to perform two tasks. Clearing water from my mask and removing my mouthpiece, dropping it to my side, retrieving it and placing it back in my mouth. I did it and the next thing I knew we were swimming underwater looking at fish and coral. For anyone who has thought of scuba diving but are concerned whether they can do it or not, Barry is the instructor for you! Thanks Barry for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I hope to continue diving in the future.

Intro Scuba Dive My roommate and I took an intro dive lesson with Barry. He was incredibly knowledgeable, kind and patient. Great diving! My daughter and I had a great day in the water with Barry, doing two different shore dives. We had not dived for a while, and having the personalized attention made us totally comfortable getting back in the water. Barry was great about having a thorough discussion about the dive on the shore and addressing our main concern - buoyancy control - in the water. And then there were the fish, sharks, and turtles... FISRT TIME SCUBA!!! Barry is a true master of his craft and such an amazing person. His instructions above water are extremely clear and concise, he sets you up for success before you even throw the gear on. When we got to the water my confidence was through the roof! Barry really took the to make sure we stayed confident and comfortable in the water. Our dive location was beautiful and crowded with sea life. It felt like we were in a new world. The video he made for us was beyond expectation and really captured our incredible experience. We cant wait to come back and see Barry for another diving adventure!

Best dive…ever! We had an absolutely amazing experience with Barry on two private dives in Maui. He is definitely the guy you want to be diving with should something go wrong- very knowledgeable, professional, responsible, and attentive to detail. He was also very flexible and pleasant to work with, and it’s clear he was committed to making our experience memorable. Honesty the best dive we’ve ever had! He also knew so much about the sea life. The best part though was the professional photos and videos (video set to music was incredible) that he made to document our experience. Truly a magical experience and superior value for the price.
